A great deal of frightening dinosaur sounds (pounding footsteps, Raptor shrieks, Dilophosaurus' hissing, the T-Rex's iconic roar, etc), as well as environmental sound effects including thunder, rain, and destruction. John Williams' score can also get very ominous and scary at points, adding to the suspense.
